Guaranteed Moving Prices in Vancouver

Changing moving prices?

Researching the best company to transport the contents of your home and getting the best moving prices can be a daunting or overwhelming task.

It is often that things can go wrong with many different moving companies, not just because of the stress of the move, but because of dishonest practices done by the movers. For example, when it comes to moving prices some moving companies will increase the estimated or quoted price that was given to you originally on the date of the move. This is a common problem because once the movers have started packing your belongings into the moving truck, they will approach you and fabricate a new cost or raise the original due to a miscalculation.

Common moving prices switch is frustrating

The most common frustrations with customers and their choice of a moving company is when the moving prices fluctuate. Most customers, if not all, will end up paying the higher charge. This is due to the fact that it will always be easier to just pay the inflated charge rather than hiring new movers and delaying the move date.

Moving Companies are not all the same

There’s Something to Learn From Every Moving Horror Story

At Priority 1 Moving we strive to provide our customers with quality service, with no hidden fees ever. Our first priority is making sure your move is done in a smooth, hassle-free matter.  With all the stress which comes along with relocating, you deserve a moving company that cares, and will get your belongings moved in a safe and secure manner. Unfortunately, this is not always the case with moving companies. After experiencing our customer driven service, our clients often share their moving horror stories. Though we never take pride in the mistakes of others, we listen to these horrible experiences so that we may learn something from each on how to better serve you our customers.

Recently, we were told of this moving experience

A husband and wife were set to move from San Diego, Ca. to Ausin Tx.,and had been quoted a price of $3525.67.  Onmoving company horror stories the day of the move, they were as giddy as any family would be, until the movers arrived.  Though they had been told their move would be in an 18- wheeler truck, they found themselves opening their door to untidy men who were driving a banged up moving van.

Not only was it not an 18- wheeler,

The van had been unsuccessfully repainted several times- with previous logos showing beneath the cheap, sheer paint.  Despite the anger, and frustration they felt, the couple went on to sign the paper.  However, upon signing, they were told of “extra” charges which they would have to pay. This was simply too much to handle, but the couple attempted to debate the charges with the emails which had been sent regarding the price of the move.

Although the emails were from an “agent”

From their company who set up the move, the movers did not waiver. The price would have to be paid before the moving could get started.  It was then that they called the company-  which resulted in being the “frosting on the cake”.  The “agent” in so many words told them that the “extras” were discussed and they would have to be paid.  Knowing this was untrue, the couple tried to argue the fact, however  the “agent” broke the first rule of customer service.  He did no listening and all talking.

He did not let them get a word in.

( This is something we at Priority 1 Moving would never do-  we believe that  great customer service comes by way of listening first, and talking second). So, as a result of the descrepancy about the charges, the “agent” told the husband and wife, that because they were not happy, they could send the movers away- but would not be refunded their deposit.  Guess how much the deposit was? Every bit of seven hundred dollars- which they have not to this day ever gotten back!  Yes, they kicked the men off their property, and dealt with the fact that they had no way to move, and needed to be out within the next few days- after the dust from the banged up truck settled.  Needless to say, they did move to Texas, for an undisclosed price- and hopefully are enjoying their new beginning.

This was one of the many moving horror stories we have heard,

We always welcome for the benefit of  knowledge.  We at Priority 1 Moving will never quote a price, and change the given price on moving day.  This is a very immoral practice, which we do not condone.  When you speak with our customer service representatives, feel free to ask questions concerning any charges or fees.  Integrity is very important to us, not only when it comes to moving your items- but your pricing as well. Making sure your move is hassle- free is a priority, should you have any concerns,  contact our customer service- and we will work to resolve your issue immediately.

Packing and Unpacking Tips

Unpacking Tips To Help Settle In Quicker

Some people like unpacking in a new house because they associate it with a new start but others don’t enjoy it at all.  Either way the job should be done quickly so that you can settle in and enjoy your new surroundings.  There are plenty of unpacking tips to follow but most of them relate back to the packing to leave.

The first and most important tip is to ensure that every box you pack is labelled for the room it is to go into and a brief of what is in the box followed by a house inventory of boxes and items.

Unpacking Tips

1.    Kitchen – when packing up the kitchen make sure boxes are smaller for crockery and there will be less chance of breakage due to dropping. When all your boxes arrive for the kitchen you will know by size and label what you have got. Before randomly unpacking give a quick thought to the use of the kitchen and where it would be best to have your items placed in the kitchen.

2.    Bedrooms – assemble the beds and make them. A good tip here is to pack all the bedding for each bed in a clear plastic bag and then each bag can be quickly located to the right bedroom.

3.    Bathroom – when packing, separate into small boxes the different items to unpack, before putting them in a large carrying box.  This way it will be easy to work out where these toiletries are to go and which bathroom.

4.    Garage – when packing smaller items it pays to have grouped them together for ease of unpacking into the right section of the garage.

5.    Living areas – the living area furniture is usually obvious and the movers will carry this into the right place for you but the accessories should be packed carefully into boxes and kept safe until you have time to unpack them which is usually one of the last jobs.  Any paintings should remain in the packaging until all the furniture is out and you know just where you want to hang them.

General Unpacking Tips

•    Prepare for unpacking by labeling and identifying boxes when you pack – number your boxes and make an inventory not only of the boxes but also where they are to go – keep out any tools you may need for assembling beds etc.

•    Start sorting out your belongings one month before moving and discarding anything you don’t want to take with you and this will give you less unpacking.

•    Start unpacking the essentials first: the basics in the kitchen so that you can cook a meal for the next day

•    Then make sure the beds that are needed are made up ready for sleeping and hang clothes in the closet (this is a great job for the kids or for helpers as they don’t have to make any decisions)

•    Start the washing – there is usually a lot of linen to wash after a move and if you put this on it can work while you work – another great job for helpers

•    Unpack the clean linen for the bathroom and the toiletries

•    Connect the computer and other electronic equipment

Once you have these jobs done you can then work through the remainder of the boxes in the following few days and get your house looking back to normal again.

Moving Insurance Explained

The Basics of Moving Insurance.

Many people underestimate the importance of insurance. However, when things go wrong, they find out to their dismay that financially they are not prepared to handle the situation. The same applies when goods are moved from one location to another. There is always a chance that during the transit, loading, unloading or storage; something may go wrong leading to the loss or damage of the items. This makes it important to have proper insurance in place. In the following paragraphs, the basics of moving insurance explained.

Valuation by the Moving Company
Buyers need to choose a particular insurance according to their specific requirements. It is important to not confuse the valuation done by the moving company with the proper moving insurance. Valuation only defines a limited liability on the part of the moving company and does not cover everything as much as the cost of the goods. Valuation option is offered without any extra cost and is not related in any way with the insurance option.

Types of Moving Insurance

There are about five types of moving insurance applicable according to Canadian laws. These insurance options include:

1) Basic Coverage
For moving companies, it is mandatory by law to provide a basic coverage to the consumers. The compensation rate for this insurance is $0.60 per good per pound. It means that if the good weighs 30 pounds then the compensation rate would be $18.

2) Declared Value Coverage
This insurance provides better coverage than the basic ones. The compensation is based on the depreciated value of the good and not on its current replacement value. In this case, for the liability amounting to $1000, the consumer has to pay $7. There is Lump Sum Value option where it is the consumer who defines the shipment value.

3) Full Value Coverage
Under this coverage, all the items can be covered up to the replacement value. The compensation may be different if the box was packed by the consumer and not by the mover. This makes it necessary to keep the damaged items in the original boxes until the claims are settled. For items lost or damaged in transit, this is the most comprehensive insurance coverage.

4) Extremely Valuable Items
These are the items that are defined having higher value than their weights, such as art collections, antique items, currency, silver and silverware, cameras, among many other such items. Compensation claims are only settled if all the items had been clearly identified and recorded as well as signed by the consumer before the shipment.

5) Homeowners Insurance
Traditional homeowners insurance also provides coverage up to the specified limit which can be about 10% of the declared value of the goods. The insurance must be valid when the damage or loss takes place. Its details must be checked before the shipment because it may be valid only on the home where the policy was purchased.

The damage or loss moving insurance claims must be filed within 9 months. The condition of all the goods must be checked immediately after delivery to ensure there is no damage or loss. It is a good idea to take photos of each of insured item before the shipment. This will help settle the claim easily when using moving insurance.

Most people are concerned about the cost of a moving service. Aside from the typical rate, a Vancouver moving company may also charge you for packing and unpacking, freight, shipping for non-standard items like a boat, installation, cleaning and trash pickup. Packing for or by a Vancouver Moving Company

Moving companies today are not mere movers. They also offer various services and products. Most of them provide various packing supplies. You will be able to find barrels, dish packs, cartons, cardboard, plastic moving bins and stretch wraps at most moving companies. While you may opt to pack your own items, you will find that most reputable companies offer packing services. It can be packing only fragile items that need expertise or a full packing service. It is advisable that you let the crew pack pianos, large mirrors and items with glass parts, chandeliers, furniture, and appliances.

DIY packing will need quality boxes, packing and masking tape, utility knife, scissors, and markers. Pack your items in small or average-sized boxes rather than keeping all of them in one huge box. It will help the movers load and unload it much easier and faster. Label each box according to where it will need to be placed in the new residence.

Did you know that using a Vancouver moving company involves specialized paperwork? For instance, you can expect to have an Order of Service, which should contain the service you requested for and the dates agreed upon by you and the Vancouver moving company.

You may deal with Bill of Lading. It is the proof that your goods are received by the company and that you permit the company to transport your items. It should specify the name of the Vancouver moving company, the date, payment details and terms, preferred protection and other important details. The driver is the one who should provide you the copy of Bill of Lading and it should have your signature. You should have it before or while the team does the loading.

Additionally, a Vancouver moving company should not be paid before the day of the move or even before loading your items. Payment should be done only when your goods reach the destination and before the crew unloads them from the truck or van.

How to Choose a Moving Company

[sharebox4 sharetext=”Share This Page”] [/sharebox4]

Moving to a new home is exciting choosing a moving company is not.

You will get to meet new people and live to a new environment. However, you should be prepared for the tiring part. You will need to pack your clothes, furniture, books, kitchenware and electronic items. You will need to find a reliable moving company to ensure that all your items will not only be moved but, moved safely and on time. Here are ways and tips on how to choose a moving company that you can fully trust.

First, start searching for moving companies a month or two before the actual moving date. It may seem very early but you will find that it is just enough. Looking for a moving company a day or a week before the moving day may cause you problems such as insufficient time for packing or having all the companies booked on your desired date. Contracting a moving company in October for a move in November or December will not hurt you, will it? After all, most companies will not ask for extra fee for early booking. In addition, you may want to ask for recommendations from your relatives, friends and neighbors. You can also take a walk or go to a café near a street to spot some trucks of moving companies. The fact that a company has its own truck and that it is running on a particular day can be considered a sign of the company’s seriousness in the business. Better yet, search the internet for reputable moving companies.

Second, decide on the service that you will avail from the moving company.

Will the service be a mere move or will you need the company to pack some of your things and clean the old or new home? Some companies do extra services for extra fee while some others provide them for free just to be chosen over their competitors. Some will even offer reusable plastic moving bins for free. However, you should be cautious about hidden charges.

Third, contact several moving companies. Always request for an estimate from several companies for the same service. Clarify the type of move you need. Will you be moving from one city in the same state, province or region? Some companies are limited to local or across the country moves. Obviously, you need to cross them out if you need to move from Canada to US. Some companies also specialize on residential move or commercial move. Others do both.

Fourth, do not be satisfied to “we can do that” answers. Take time to evaluate the moving company that you think will be a good choice. Look for associations and networks it belongs to and feedback from past clients.

Fifth, quotes are not enough. You need to determine how they determine the rates. Some companies calculate based on weight while others will base it on the duration of the move. Fees based on the truck space or cubic feet your things will take are not valid in most countries. If the moving company uses weight as basis, make sure that you will be there when it is weighing time. If based on time or duration, ask the company when the time starts and stops. The counting may start when the team arrives or when all the things are loaded to the truck.
